Hi there! Or should I say ¡Hola! I am an Elementary Spanish teacher. When I started my teaching program, teaching Spanish was not what I had in mind. However, I needed to add Foreign Language to my Plan of Work. Since I grew up bilingual I tested out of classes and I only needed a few more classes to obtain my Spanish endorsements in K-8th Spanish. I took the gamble, and now I have a job that I never thought I would enjoy so much. In May 2012, I graduated from WSU with a Bachelor’s in K-5 all subjects, Math 5-8, and Spanish 5-8. In Jan 2015 I returned to WSU for my master Educational Technology K-12, and I am finally completing my last semester.
I selected this program because I always liked technology and I like ot stay up to date with 21st Century learning and teaching. This program guided me and given me corage on trying new things in class. In this course, specifically, I look forward to learning how to use Blogger and Twitter in the classroom. With me teaching Spanish, I would like to find safe and effective ways for my students to Blog and Tweet in español.
I think the idea of having your students blog and tweet in Spanish is wonderful! With elementary students, you must have very different factors to consider in how students safely and appropriately use the internet than those of us with high school students. As the semester goes on, I'll be interested to see more of the things you must consider that I don't think of with teenagers.
ReplyDeleteYou are definitely right, with my students' age group I need to take extra precaution. I am looking forward on learning more about appropriate strategies to have them use more eTools.
ReplyDeleteI, too, have challenges when it comes to students. At least your students can use the computer. Unfortunately, my students can use the computer with adult supervision. Good Luck to you, however, in your pursuit of teaching your students how to blog. It may be challenging but it will be well worth it. Additionally, I want to learn how to blog for personal reasons as well.
ReplyDeleteThank you for wishing me luck. If I do decide to have my students use Blogger it will be next year. I am testing the waters first :)
DeleteI always found it odd that you could test out of courses based on ability (like being bilingual) but still needing the same number of credits (thus, the college gets their money, regardless). Welcome!
